One event expected to honor the hometown hero Louis Zamperini may not come to fruition if the sponsors don’t step in to help.
The Torrance Rose Float Association is in jeopardy of missing out on the 2015 Tournament of Roses Parade due to a corporate sponsor’s recent withdrawal. The organization is now scrambling to raise $150,000 in less than 2 months to help fund the construction of the float. This year’s entry theme, “Inspiring Stories,” was slated to feature Louis Zamperini, paying homage to the local war hero. Last year, Torrance based AYSO largely paid for the soccer themed float to mark its 50th Anniversary. However, this year the unidentified corporation pulled out leaving the association in a lurch.
The TRFA already paid Fiesta Parade Floats $10,000 to produce conceptual float designs along with a non-refundable $5,000 to pay for the parade entry fee. While smaller scale fundraising continues, the association must have the bulk of the money by September 15 so float construction can begin.
