The City broke ground today on its new Torrance Transit Park and Ride Regional Terminal.

Mayor Patrick Furey, along with the City Council and members of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, helped mark the official start of construction.

The facility, located at 465 Crenshaw Blvd. will serve as a transit center for the South Bay with hopes to be the home of a Metro Green Line Station. The new complex will feature a 250 car parking lot for daily riders, as well as a public plaza and a 15,000 square foot transit building.

Funding for the project came from multiple sources including $18.1 million from Measure R and $1 million from the City of Torrance among others. Officials say the terminal will play a large role in improving mobility and air quality by reducing single occupancy vehicles trips along the 1-405 and 110, two heavy traffic zones.
