Local law enforcement officers have plans for another DUI checkpoint this weekend.
The Torrance Police Department Traffic Unit will be conducting a DUI/drivers license checkpoint this Friday from 8 p.m. until Saturday at 3 a.m.
Checkpoints are designed to keep impaired drivers off the road. Research shows that accidents involving an impaired driver can be reduced up to 20 percent when publicized DUI checkpoints are conducted routinely.
According to the CDC, almost 30 people in the United States die daily from car crashes that involve an alcohol-impaired driver.
Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and drug impairment. Impaired drivers caught can expect a DUI arrest along with jail time, fines and classes.
