The results are in from a DUI Checkpoint that took place over the weekend in Torrance.
The Torrance Police Department Traffic Unit held a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint this past from 8 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday as part of an effort to keep impaired drivers off the road. Research shows that accidents involving an impaired driver can be reduced up to 20 percent when publicized DUI checkpoints are conducted routinely.
Officers were stationed on the eastbound lanes of Torrance Boulevard near Madrona Avenue looking for signs of alcohol and drug impairment.
A total of 1,691 cars passed through the checkpoint, and 26 were screened. One driver was detained for DUI, and eight unlicensed drivers were cited. Four drivers were cited for driving on a suspended license, and four miscellaneous citations were given.
