YMCA Torrance-South Bay kicks off the beginning of a group-based program that will help you stay diabetes free.

Tonight, YMCA Torrance-South Bay will host the first weekly session for its diabetes prevention program. The 12-month program consists of 16 one-hour sessions, followed by monthly sessions.

The program is led by a lifestyle coach who discusses topics of healthy eating, increasing physical activity, reducing stress and problem solving. The program also has set goals for participants, which include losing 7 percent of your body weight and increasing physical activities to 150 minutes per week.

Diabetes is a condition that can cause blood sugar levels to rise higher than normal. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form.

The program starts tonight at 7:30.  For more information on how you can sign-up, call the YMCA at (310) 325-5885.
