Torrance’s Fire Chief William Racowschi will be saying good-bye to the Department after 35 years.
Racowschi began his career with the City of Torrance as a firefighter in 1980. Since then he has moved up the ranks as Fire Captain, Battalion Chief, and then to Fire Chief in 2008.
He has played key roles in restructuring the training academy and probationary training program. Under his leadership, the Torrance Fire Department has excelled as one of the 12 Class 1 rated fire departments in California.
And despite, budgetary reductions during the recession, Racowschi made sure Torrance Fire Department kept its quality service.
Colleagues say he was always a role model and motivator. His last day in office will be tomorrow, but he will be recognized tonight at the City Council meeting.
