Heavy storms slammed rain across Los Angeles County today in what looks to be the start of El Nino.

According to the National Weather Service, the stronger storm systems are expected to stay through the end of the week, with significant rainfall expected.

Weather experts say this is the beginning of the El Nino system that will have impacts in California and the rest of the nation in the coming weeks and months.

A second storm will move across the area Wednesday, with shower chances through most of Thursday. Multiple warning advisories have been issued by the national service; Torrance is affected by the high surf warnings, with 6- to 10-foot waves predicted.
