A local development project is finally moving forward.

The City of Torrance approved a demolition permit to make way for the construction of a new mix-used residential-commercial development near 244th Street and Hawthorne Boulevard.

The site used to be the home of Akai Swim School, which closed in 2014.

The new project will bring the possibility of eight new town homes and 3,000 square feet of commercial space.
