The City of Torrance is looking to light up the sky once again.

At its meeting tonight, the City Council vote on funding that would bring back July 4th fireworks to the City of Torrance. The recommendation considers a proposal that the fireworks to be held at the Torrance Civic Center, with costs totaling about $75,000.

The Fourth of July fireworks display used to be a tradition in the City. It hasn’t been funded since 2010 due to the high costs of the show, which were nearing almost $250,000 a year. The City’s July 4th celebrations included an all-day event at Wilson Park.

Just two years ago, the City explored the option of bringing back the show, but at that time funding was not found.

The Community Services department said hat if the event is given a green light, they will begin agreements for event parking with the Courthouse and neighboring businesses. They also will formulate an outreach plan to the surrounding neighborhoods.
