West High School students took home the grand prize at an esteemed tournament recently.

Students participated in the 30th Annual Los Angeles Regional Science Olympiad Antelope Valley College Tournament. The team placed No. 1 out of 31 schools. They also won 15 awards out of 23 categories. Some of these included taking 4th place in Forensics, taking first place in Disease Detectives and Protein Modeling.

The Science Olympiad is an international, non-profit organization devoted to improving the quality of science education. Students prepare throughout the year. The events throughout the tournament require knowledge of science facts, concepts, and skills applications.

The team will compete at Caltech in the 2016 Southern California State Science Olympiad in April.
