A local flooring company is under fire for selling products that may pose major health risks.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says a new report shows that certain laminated flooring products sourced from China and sold by Lumber Liquidators could pose a risk to human health. The products are said to have to high levels of formaldehyde, which is often found in laminate flooring.

Originally reports released in early February found that there were low risks of cancer, however there was an error in the calculations. There is now an estimated cancer risk of six to 30 cases per 100,000 people.

Long-term exposure to high concentrations of formaldehyde can increase the risk of certain cancers and myeloid leukemia.

This isn’t the first time Lumber Liquidators has been in the news. They were accused last year for having high levels as well.

Lumber Liquidators is located in the Harbor Gateway just outside of Torrance. Stocks for this company also plummeted after the CDC came back with the new report.
