A luxury car maker is recalling nearly 30,000 sedans.
Floor mats in the Maserati Ghibli and Quattroporte are becoming stuck under the gas pedal, causing the car to accelerate even after the driver lifts his or her foot off the accelerator. But thanks to the brake override feature, engine power is automatically reduced when the driver presses on the brake pedal, even if the gas pedal is still pressed down.
Nearly 28,000 Maserati sedans in the United States are involved in the recall.
Maserati plans to notify the owners, and dealers will replace the driver’s-side floor mat and the accelerator pedal cover for free.
The Quattroporte starts at about $107,000, while Ghibli prices start at about $72,000.
Rusnak Maserati of South Bay, located on Hawthorne Boulevard, is one of the newest Maserati dealerships in Southern California.
