With St. Patrick’s Day around the corner, the Torrance Police Department will be out in full force.

Officers plan to target problem areas that have high numbers of DUI collisions and DUI arrests in hopes of lowering deaths and injuries associated with this year’s festivities.

Statistics show that March 17 has become one of the nation’s deadliest holidays. Authorities say that statistics show that 30 percent of drivers in fatal crash have had one or more drugs in their systems.

The DUI patrol officers, along with routine nightly patrols, will be looking for signs of impaired driving. Police say don’t just be cautious behind the wheel, also be careful while on foot. Police say walking while intoxicated also can be deadly.

If you are planning to drink, you can take steps to be prepared for a safe return home by designating a sober driver. You can also download a designated driver mobile app to plan your ride home ahead of time. Always have a back-up plan or someone you can call for a ride.
