A major traffic collision that left one man dead is still being investigated.

The Torrance Police Department responded to this intersection of Torrance Boulevard and Madrona Avenue around 1:40 p.m. on Saturday. Officers found a GMC pickup with a camper that had been traveling westbound on Torrance Boulevard. The truck was fully engulfed in flames and had flipped over after colliding with another car and hitting a tree and three cars traveling on Madrona Avenue.

The incident trapped the driver. Several off-duty Torrance firefighters rushed to the scene to try and rescue the victim, but were unsuccessful due to the intense heat of the fire.

The accident also caused $25,000 worth of damage to a unit that controls intersection cameras.
