Torrance Police are out looking for drivers and passengers breaking the law by not buckling up.

As part of the 2016 Safety Belt Safe USA enforcement campaign, police will be out in full force looking for those who don’t properly wear their seat belts on the road and citing those who are not safely using child car seats. The goal of the campaign is to educate the public and make sure people follow the law to help save lives.

According to the California Highway Patrol, more than 80 percent of the children under the age of four years killed in traffic collisions since 1990 were not properly restrained in car seats. If they had been buckled up properly, they likely would have survived.

The campaign continues through April 2. Authorities say they will target all seat belt violations, including not wearing seat belts properly.
