Enforcement at a recent Torrance Police checkpoint shows that arrests at DUI and licensing stops have dropped.
The TPD Traffic Division set up a checkpoint on the eastbound lanes of the 4300 block of Pacific Coast Highway between 8 p.m. June 10 and 3 a.m. June 11. They looked for drivers who were under the influence and who were not properly licensed to drive.
In total 1,723 vehicles passed through the area and more than 1,000 drivers were stopped. Four arrests were made. Eight drivers were cited for operating a vehicle without a license or on a suspended license.
Checkpoints are placed in areas where enforcement feels they have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunken and drugged driving deterrence.
