As the heat wave continues to hit Southern California, there are ways to stay cool, even without an air conditioner.
Here are some tips by Edison International on how you can brave the hot temperatures. First, head to a cooling center, visit a library or even head to the mall. Some other suggestions include putting your bed sheets in the refrigerator or freezer for a few minutes, which can provide some temporary relief. You can take a shower to keep your body cool, try not to use a stove, so your home stays cooler. Dress in loose fit, lighter clothing and wear sandals. Cotton is recommended. Wear sunscreen, reduce activity, and avoid the sun from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Stay hydrated and turn on your fan as an alternative option. The two designated cooling centers in Torrance include the Bartlett Senior Center and the Katy Geissert Civic Center Library. The Bartlett Senior Center is located at 1318 Cravens Avenue and the library is located at Torrance and Madrona Avenue. Also don’t forget about your four legged friends either! Be sure to keep them out of the sun, with plenty of water to stay hydrated.
