Flags are being ordered to fly at half-staff this week.

President Barack Obama is asking that all United States flags at the White House and public buildings and grounds be lowered in honor of the police officers killed in Baton Rouge, La. Flags were recently lowered this month in remembrance of the victims of the tragedy in Nice, France.

Flying the flag at half-staff holds a symbolic meaning that the whole nation is in mourning.

Meanwhile, the community continues to show its support for the Torrance Police Department. After the recent shootings that killed three Baton Rouge officers, community members have continued to bring in baked goods to the Torrance Police station. Some also are leaving encouraging notes of kindness and gratitude at the station, on patrol cars and on social media.

This show of support started after five Dallas police officers were killed in a shooting at was supposed to be a peaceful demonstration.
