A local medical center proved for another year that it is one of the best in the state.

U.S. News and World Report released today the best hospitals for the 2016-2017 year. Torrance Memorial Medical Center was ranked 21st in the state, moving up six ranks from last year. Torrance Memorial Medical Center also placed as the 11th best hospital in the Los Angeles and Orange County Region. The medical center was recognized for its high performance in specialties, procedures and conditions in chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, colon cancer, and lung cancer to name a few.

U.S. News evaluates nearly 5,000 hospitals nationwide. They are now in their 27th year.

The best hospitals are based on objective measures such as patient survival, the number of times a given procedure is performed, infection rates, adequacy of nurse staffing and more. They also evaluate based on 16 medical specialties.

Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center received high performing ranks in heart failure, colon cancer surgery, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
