A couple local high schools have earned some bragging rights.

West High School and South High School made it on to Newsweek’s 2016 top 500 high schools in the country list. Ranked at 238, West has nearly a 98 percent graduation rate and about 96 percent of their graduates go to college. South High School was ranked at 289 and has a nearly 100 percent graduation rate and more than 93 percent of the students go to college.

Newsweek’s new list identifies public high schools nationwide that excel at preparing students for college, as well as “beating the odds.” Schools are also ranked based on SAT/ACT scores, AP course participation, counselor-to-student ratio, and other state test scores.
