Torrance Police will be out in full force this weekend.

A scheduled DUI and driver’s license checkpoint is set for Saturday, Aug. 20 beginning at 8 p.m. Officers will look for signs of drivers under the influence of alcohol, drugs as well as proper licensing. The Torrance Police Department performs six checkpoints throughout the year funded with grant money received by the state. This particular enforcement will be during their summer mobilization period that other law enforcement agencies across the country also take part in. They make DUI and licensing their focus during a certain times of the year. Recent statistics show that 30 percent of drivers in fatal crashes had one or more drugs in their systems. In 2013, 867 deaths occurred due to drunk driving related incidents.
