The State Senate approves a local Assemblyman’s mission to rename part of the 405 freeway after a local legend.

Assemblyman David Hadley spearheaded the naming of a two-mile stretch of the 405 freeway in Torrance in memory Louis Zamperini. Hadley says “Zamperini was a role model and inspiration. He was a great American from Torrance who led an incredible life worthy of memorializing.” They will name part of the interstate the Louis Zamperini Memorial Highway, the area will include Redondo Beach Boulevard to South Western Avenue in Torrance. They are looking to raise $5,000 to pay for two signs displaying the new name on the freeway.

Zamperini was a Torrance resident notable life included competing in the Olympics and being held captive as a prisoner of war. The story of his amazing life has also been captured in the movie and book, “Unbroken.” Louis Zamperini died in 2014 at the age of 97.
