The Torrance Police Department released more information about a recent operation that has been in the works for more than three and a half years.

The Torrance Police Department’s Gang Detail has led a gang conspiracy investigation that focused on residential burglaries in Torrance and surrounding cities. Recently, Torrance Police along with 18 police agencies raided 28 locations that targeted members of the criminal street gang East Coast Crips. These members have been arrested in Torrance and surrounding cities including Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura counties for committing residential burglaries.

The investigation is being called “Operation Money Bags” and detectives have found that some of the proceeds from the burglaries were being used to obtain prescription narcotics, which were then resold on the streets of Los Angeles. 28 search warrants were served, 147 counts of residential burglaries were committed, 13 arrests were made, seven firearms recovered, and various amounts of narcotics and U.S. currency were also collected. Police say they have tied more than 50 gang members to the crimes. Authorities say these individuals were committing burglaries two to almost four times a day and five days a week. The operation is part of a long-term solution to decrease residential burglaries. Read the Press Release…
