A recent heat wave rocketed temperatures into the three digits yesterday, but is winding down.
Today, there was a high of 93 degrees. Tomorrow it will cool down a bit and drop into the 80s, and Thursday you can expect a high of 87 degrees in Torrance.
And with the unseasonal heat hitting the area, there are many places you can go to keep cool. Two designated Cooling Centers in Torrance include the Bartlett Senior Center and the Katy Geissert Civic Center Library, which are both open to the public.
As temperatures rise, here are some helpful tips to keep cool:
• Drink water often
• Avoid the sun from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Reduce your physical activities
• Use sunscreen if you do have to go outdoors
• Care for your pets by offering them a cool place to hang out and plenty of water to stay hydrated
The Bartlett Senior Center is open Monday through Saturday 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., and Sundays from 12:30 to 4pm. The Katy Geissert Civic Center Library is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and on Saturday’s from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This Sunday they will be open from 1 to 5 p.m.
