Torrance Police have been working to deter the coyote population, and other City departments are doing their part as well.
The City parks staff say they have been taking many steps to prevent coyotes from habituating in the City. Officials say that approximately 100 domed, self-closing trash can lids were purchased to prevent animals from taking out debris that may lure coyotes.
Staff has also been working around the clock to constantly check trash bins to make sure there is not a lot of trash sitting around. Many bins also have a narrow, 9-inch circular opening top that discourages animals from getting access.
They have also made efforts to remove shrubs and clean areas of high grass where animals including coyotes can hide.
As a reminder, officials say don’t leave trash bags outside of the dumpster and pick up after yourselves. Learn about urban coyotes…
