A newly formed foundation is granting the Torrance Police Department funds to help save lives.
The Torrance Police Foundation launched this week and its mission is to support the Torrance Police Department. At tonight’s City Council meeting, the foundation will grant the Police Department a check for more than $26,000 to purchase eighteen automated external defibrillators. Currently, police vehicles are not equipped with these defibrillators that treat victims of sudden cardiac arrest.
Studies from the American Heart Association indicate that employing both AED and CPR rescue techniques within the first 5 minutes of sudden cardiac arrest can increase survival rates by more than 50 percent.
The Torrance Police Foundation is governed by a volunteer board of directors made up of business and community leaders.
