Flags are being flown at half-staff across the City today.

Mayor Patrick J. Furey ordered flags at all City buildings to be lowered to half-staff in honor of Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Steve Owen who was fatally wounded after responding to a residential burglary call. A second deputy was also injured.

Members of the Torrance Police Department are also wearing black bands on their badges to remember Owen, as well as the two police officers killed in the line of duty in Palm Springs over the weekend, Lesley Zerebny and Jose Gilbert Vega. The Department announced that flags will also be flown at half-staff at the Torrance Police Department to remember their lives.

Police Chief Mark Matsuda and the Department say their thoughts and prayers go out to all the families.
