The Torrance Fire Department continues to investigate an apartment fire that left a Torrance family without a home.
Fire crews quickly arrived to an apartment on the 1800 block of Plaza Del Amo to find a unit fully engulfed in flames, with smoke and fire coming out of three sides of that unit. At first, fire crews were alerted that the apartment was clear of people and pets, but soon learned that a family dog was still in there.
Crews went back into the fire engulfed home to find this dog hidden in the backroom closet under stuffed animals. Authorities say he was hiding in the only part of the home that was not touched by the fire. The apartment unit is nearly a total loss.
Thanks to the Fire Department and the management at their current apartment building the family was placed in temporary housing. It took nearly 20 minutes to break down the fire. The Senior Fire Investigator has not issued a report yet of what caused the fire.
