Commuters in Torrance may experience some traffic delays along a main thoroughfare as a project gets under way on the South side of the City.

Public Works crews have started work on the Crenshaw Boulevard Rehabilitation Project. Officials from the department say it focuses on Crenshaw Boulevard from Sepulveda to Skypark Drive and then Pacific Coast Highway to the south City limits.

The majority of the work in the beginning will be light to minimize traffic impacts during the holiday season, with work increasing after the first of the year.

Today, the crews marked streets and closed off a northbound lane south of Pacific Coast Highway. The project will rehabilitate Crenshaw by removing broken concrete, median landscaping south of PCH and traffic signal improvements at three intersections. The project has been in the works for a while.

Crenshaw Boulevard was chosen because of the heavy traffic volumes on the street, which has caused the pavement to deteriorate. Officials say that since various lanes will be closed throughout the project, it’s a good idea to plan your alternate routes beforehand.
