Flags all across the City were lowered to half-staff today to honor the late John Glenn.
President Obama ordered all flags located in public buildings and grounds, military posts and naval stations, U.S. embassies and other facilities to be lowered.
Glenn, who died Dec. 8 at the age of 95, was the first American NASA astronaut to orbit the Earth. He later went on to serve in the U.S. Senate for 24 years.
A memorial service is scheduled for this Saturday at Ohio State University, his public viewing at the Ohio Statehouse Rotunda will take place this Friday. Flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on the day of his burial, which will take place at Arlington National Cemetery.
