With holiday parties in full swing this month, local authorities plan to crack down.

Torrance Police will set up a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint starting at 8 p.m. Friday Dec. 16 and going until 3 a.m. Saturday Dec. 17.

December is National Impaired Driving Prevention Month, and according to Bureau of Transportation statistics, three people are killed in alcohol-related highway crashes every two hours. Police encourage designating a sober driver when planning to attend parties or a night out or use a taxi or car service. Each year, the Automobile Club offers a holiday safe ride program at locations throughout the country.
