With the holidays here and parties in full swing, local authorities have ramped up enforcement this month.

Beginning Dec. 16 and going into the New Year, Torrance Police have stepped up enforcement to look for impaired drivers. As part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, police, sheriffs and the California Highway Patrol will host DUI check points and DUI saturation patrols over the 17-day DUI crackdown within the region.

December is National Impaired Driving Prevention Month, and according to Bureau of Transportation statistics, every two hours, three people are killed in alcohol-related highway crashes.

Police encourage designating a sober driver when planning to attend parties or a night out, or to use a car service or call a taxi. Drivers are also encouraged to download the Designated Driver VIP mobile app which helps you find bars and nearby restaurants that feature free incentives for the designated sober driver.
