As this year’s Torrance Rose Float brought home another win for its beautiful creation, you can already be part of next year’s float design.

The Torrance Rose Float Association is looking to choose another Torrance high school student design for the City’s Rose Parade float in 2018. The design contest is open now, and students can submit their designs. Concepts will be judged by members of Destination: Art and Tim Estes of Fiesta Parade Floats. The theme is “The Power of Kindness.”

After the Jan. 31 deadline, four designs will be presented to the Torrance Rose Float Association Executive Board and one will be submitted to the Pasadena Tournament of Roses for approval.

West High student Lindsey Beckmeyer won the contest for this year’s float concept. Her design was called “Be Your Own Knight.” It received the Tournament’s Volunteers Trophy for best floral design of parade theme in 35 feet and under.

The winner will also get to ride the float on parade day. You must submit a simple sketch by 8 p.m. at the end of the month. For the application, head to TorranceRoseFloat.Org.
