Drivers may face traffic impacts eastbound on Lomita Boulevard for another 24 hours.
Crews continue to work on repairing a diesel pipe leak that was reported Monday morning. Authorities say that a passerby had noticed an oily type of substance flowing from across the sidewalk into the gutter. Torrance Fire Department responded and started to control the flow and do clean-up.
The leak came from a 6-inch underground pipeline carrying diesel fuel from the Phillips 66 pumping station on Lomita Boulevard west of Crenshaw Boulevard. An estimated 50 gallons of fuel has leaked, which saturated planter beds nearby.
Los Angeles County Hazardous Materials crews also arrived on scene to assist and assess the situation. Torrance Police shut down a driveway of the Torrance Crossroads shopping center, and eastbound Lomita Boulevard was reduced to one lane. Fire officials say there was no threat to public safety.
