Torrance’s Hometown Heroes program is accepting applications for the new year.

Driving down Torrance Boulevard during the time around the annual Armed Forces Day celebrations, you may have noticed banners of men and women who have served or are currently serving in the Armed Forces. It’s part of the City’s Hometown Heroes Military Banner Recognition Program.

Anyone interested in honoring a family member or friend can apply for the 2017 program. Banners are installed each year to coincide with the annual Armed Forces Day Parade in Torrance. The 2017 Armed Forces Day Celebration will take place the weekend of May 19-21.

The City Council also presents a souvenir photo of the banner at a Council meeting. Honorees are also listed on the City website.

Honorees must be military personnel who are or were part of the U.S. Armed Forces. The person must be or have been a Torrance resident or have an immediate family member who is a resident. Applications are due by Feb. 20.
