A dog food company is recalling its products after a dangerous drug was found in it.
Evanger’s is recalling its “Hunk of Beef Au Jus” dog food after pentobarbital, a drug that is used to help euthanize pets, was found in the product. Five dogs have already been sick and one has died. Pentobarbital can cause drowsiness, dizziness and nausea.
California is one of 15 states affected by the recall of 12-ounce cans manufactured from June 6-13. The lot number of the products that made animals sick is 1816E06HB13. The company says they source from suppliers of meat products that are USDA approved.
It’s the company’s first recall in 82 years. Contact Evanger’s at (847) 537-0102 with any questions.
