Work on the Opal Street Sewer project impacted traffic heavily today.

As Public Works crews work on curb ramp construction at the southeast and northeast corners of Madrona Avenue and Opal street, the northbound middle lane on Madrona Avenue was closed in the area of Fashion Way. Access was only provided for local residents, school employees, students and emergency vehicles.

Officials say traffic impacts will continue on Madrona Avenue through the week from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

The project also includes reconstruction of a manhole at the intersection of Madrona Avenue and Fashion Way along with the installation of a sewer bypass. This project will add a new 15-inch sewer, which will divert mall flows from the existing El Dorado sewer and connect with the existing sewer along Maple Avenue.

You can also expect one more lane closure for 24 hours on Del Amo Boulevard between Crenshaw Boulevard and Maple Avenue. The eastbound lane will be closed due to construction work on the Ganahl Lumber site.
