A local elementary school teacher is being honored for her dedication to education.

Towers Elementary school teacher, Carol Grossi is heading to Sacramento next week to accept her award for the Elementary Teacher of the Year given by the National Council for the Social Studies for the state of California. Grossi has worked at Towers since 1993 and is currently a fifth grade teacher with a focus on social studies and math with language arts and science embedded in the curriculum.

To many she is known as a creative, innovative and caring teacher. Grossi was nominated by her sister who is a teacher in Pasadena.

NCSS, which was founded in 1921, has grown to be the largest association in the country devoted only to social studies education. Its mission is to provide leadership, service and support for all social studies educators.
