Another hot agenda item at the council meeting tonight is the possible adoption of a tree ordinance.

The Community Development Department is hoping the City will adopt an ordinance that would allow City officials to regulate trees and vegetation within the Hillside Overlay District. This has been a debated topic for years as homeowners have put up a fight to keep their beach and city light views clear from any vegetation that neighbors may have grown.

The ordinance has been revised to meet concerns that were brought up by the Council, including removing the 6 foot height minimum for qualifying vegetation and for more staffing during the first year of the ordinance’s implementation. More details will be discussed tonight at the City Council meeting beginning at 7 pm.

Council Chambers are located in City Hall at 3031 Torrance Blvd. If you can’t attend, you can watch it on Spectrum Channel 3, Frontier FiOs Channel 31 and over the air on KNET 25.2. You can go online to view the live City Council meeting.
