Local authorities were able to take four impaired drivers off the road this past weekend.
Torrance Police officers conducted a successful DUI and Driver’s License checkpoint in the 4200 block of 190th Street from 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24 to 3 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25. Throughout the evening, more than 1,200 cars passed through the checkpoint. In addition to the DUI arrests, 11 drivers were cited for operating a car without a license or with a suspended or revoked license.
Officials say they choose areas for checkpoints that potentially have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunken and drugged driving deterrence. Another checkpoint is scheduled to take place sometime in March.
These types of checkpoints are funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
