A highly anticipated project is under way at Wilson Park.

Despite heavy rain that caused some delays, crews are working on improving the gazebo at Charles Wilson Park. They are currently digging trenches and have fenced off the area.

The City plans to transform the gazebo into a more usable live performance space and rental location. They will demolish two of the existing front columns to allow for a better stage. The concrete stage will be widened and a signature design element made from metal will mark the stage. It will also have a better sound and light available to park goers.

Once complete the space will be available to the community on a rental basis for weddings, parties, performances and concerts. The project idea came about in 2006, but the project was too large at the time.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of April 27.
