If you drive a Honda or Acura, you may want to make sure your car is safe to drive.

Southern California residents driving 2001 to 2003 Honda and Acura models are being urged to take advantage of a free recall repair service to replace possibly defective Takata airbag inflators that could rupture during a crash and cause potentially fatal injuries.

The emphasis is being placed on Southern California drivers because of the heat in the region that cause these dangerous incidents to possibly occur if drivers haven’t fixed the problem yet. Just check your vehicle identification number and if replacement is needed, you can visit any authorized dealership.

Three people in California have been killed by defective airbag inflators, and about 180 people have suffered serious injuries.

The nationwide recall affects as many as 42 million cars and 19 different companies. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says if you drive any of these models, you face a 50 percent chance of serious injury or death if airbags are activated.
