The Torrance Police Department is offering new perks for police officers at other agencies who may want to make a move.
The recently approved new lateral hire incentive program for police officers at TPD is focusing on attracting early to mid-career officers seeking professional growth and development opportunities. They’re offering a bank of 60 vacation hours and 96 sick hours after successfully completing probation. Year-for-year service credit and starting salary will correlate to experience. Lastly, the program also offers a $6,500 dollar signing bonus, $1,500 initially and $5,000 after probation is complete.
The Torrance Police Department says they have received interest from qualified lateral applicants in the past, but due to a loss of income it has been a deterrent for some officers to change agencies.
The Torrance City Council approved this program on Feb. 28.
