A local organization is in urgent need of donations to help continue one of its most important programs.
The Volunteer Center South Bay – Harbor- Long Beach is currently asking for the community’s help in donating shelf-stable protein for their Food for Kids Program. Officials say this shortage is common during this time of year, since protein is usually more expensive than buying other goods.
They are hoping to collect proteins ranging from peanut butter, tuna, ham, chicken and pasta.
Every week, 145 bags are donated to 10 different area schools. The program focuses on delivering food to Title I elementary school children so they have food for the weekend.
Donations can be made at The Volunteer Center at 1230 Cravens Avenue in Torrance from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
