Your Torrance Library card can get you a deal at a local bike store.

From now through May 15, show proof of signing up for a Torrance library card or show your current one to receive 20 percent off at Safety Cycle in Torrance, which is one of four stores across the South Bay taking part in promoting the Beach Cities Reading Program.

This year, it focuses on promoting the reading of the book “Bicycle Diaries” by David Byrne. Torrance Library along with other libraries in the South Bay is hosting various events. Besides giving locals a deal, Safety Cycle will also host one of the program’s events called “Bicycle 101” at Henderson Library in May. They will teach people how to choose the right bike, where to ride and how to stay safe.

It’s the first time the City of Torrance is partnering with other cities for this program. This Saturday at 11 a.m. you can stop by the Walteria Library to learn about a new bicycle that works with human and battery power. Then at the Southeast Library at 1 p.m. they will have a showing of the movie “Premium Rush.” There are more events in May. To get a full schedule of events in the program as well as other Library events, check out the calendar online.

Safety Cycle is located at 23112 Hawthorne Blvd.
