The Torrance Airport-Zamperini Field was busy today as crews installed some special signage.
Twenty-one hangar rows are getting named along with two gates and one viewing deck.
The proposal was approved by City Council and it was decided that the areas would be named for people, places or businesses related to local aviation history. A committee was created to discuss the names.
The viewing deck at the General Aviation Center will be named after Charles “Chuck” Lobb to recognize his efforts in documenting the history of the airport. Some of the names include P-38 Lightning, Bob Hoover Row and Roger Keeney East T’s Gate. The project idea came about by the Airport Association and Councilman Tim Goodrich to enhance the character of the airport.
Crews will continue work throughout the week.
