Locals got a lesson today on what to do when someone is experiencing cardiac arrest.
The Torrance Certified Farmers’ Market was one of seven locations where the Torrance Fire Department along with hospital partners and McCormick Ambulance helped teach people how to perform hands-only CPR. This type of CPR increases the chance of survival during cardiac arrest emergencies.
Attendees learned that it involves two easy steps that include calling 911 and pushing hard and fast in the center of the chest. In 2016, 24 percent of cardiac arrest victims in the City of Torrance received CPR from a bystander before emergency personnel arrived.
For those wanting to learn the technique, there will be another training session tomorrow, June 7, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the 24 Hour Fitness at 4240 Redondo Beach Blvd.
There will be an additional opportunity to participate in a hands on experience at the Torrance Historical Society ROCK Around the Block, free, family, fun celebration on Thursday, July 20 from 5 – 8PM when the Torrance Fire Department participates and has a booth on site. The event will be held on Post Avenue in Old Torrance at the intersection of Post and Cravens at 1345 Post Avenue. Come on down and have a great evening. In N Out Burger truck will be there also plus contests, music and vintage cars.
