Torrance Memorial Medical Center announced that patient information has been compromised

The hospital began notifying patients that email accounts containing work related reports and personal data were breached at the hospital. It is being called a phishing attack that occurred on April 18th and 19th. An official from the hospital says the investigation show that personal information for certain individuals was present in some impacted emailed, but they don’t know whether emails or attachments containing the information were accessed by an unauthorized person. Personal information like social security numbers, health insurance information and numbers to name a few could have been accessed, but there is no evidence that any actual or attempted misuse of information as a result of this incident. Notice letters were mailed to potential impacted individuals, who will receive monitoring and identity theft protection services for one year. Officials also say for individuals to stay vigilant, review account statements and monitor free credit reports. The breach was reported to the California Department of Public Health, The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the FBI.
