Automobile Club of Southern California (AAA) officials say travelers took advantage of record low gas prices this Independence Day weekend when nearly 3.1 million people were expected to travel.
Prices are at their lowest since 2005 in most areas. The retail statewide average is $2.94 cents a gallon for regular unleaded. Officials say gas prices are expected to be lower today than they were during the New Year’s holiday.
Also, nearly 44.2 million people will travel at least 50 miles from home, a 2.9 percent increase over last year’s record for the holiday. Air travel is up nearly five percent from last year due to cheaper fares and lower car rental prices.
The cheapest gas prices you can find here in Torrance, according to GasBuddy.com, is at Costco, with regular unleaded gas price at $2.45 per gallon. ARCO on Crenshaw Boulevard and W. 235th Street has premium gas at $2.65 per gallon.
