As firefighters continue to battle wildfires near California’s Central Coast, Torrance Fire fighters have been deployed to assist with the blaze.
Officials say the fast moving wildfires have burned thousands of acres in the area between San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties. Two Torrance Fire engines and a strike team leader trainee were called out to assignment near Santa Barbara this past Saturday night to help fight the Whittier Fire.
Torrance Fire is also being accompanied by engines from El Segundo, Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach fire departments. The strike team will be on assignment for the next 24 hours in Teceleote and Dos Pueblos Canyons. They plan to return Thursday.
The blaze, called the Whittier Fire, remains 25 percent contained.
Fire Assistant Chief Steve Treskes says the strike team is doing well.
